Brooklyn-based DEDE evolved out of a shared love of Serge Gainsbourg, Nico, fashion, Warhol, trip hop and the South of France circa 1967. With a fresh approach to nostalgia, DEDE, fronted by Wisconsin native Dede Reynolds and partner Tim K, is sugar coated in ‘60s-era beach pop, laced in ‘90s British trip hop. The duo’s self-titled EP seamlessly fuses their shared appreciation for diverse international flavors, vibrant visuals and the overall marriage of art and sound. The bass-heavy grooves coast along an organ-laden backdrop, as the visually-rich lyrics are intoned in Reynolds’ soft feminine purr.
The duo originally started as a music composition team who quickly rose to prominence when their “Adventureland” music, composed for Purina’s Friskies, became a viral sensation and ultimately featured as AdWeek Magazine’s “Ad of the Day.” The psychedelic national spot initially aired during the Winter Olympics of 2010 and incited instant queries into the mysterious vocalist who exerted that gentle, youthful coo. It wasn’t soon after DEDE emerged with additional original material, this time as a band, ready to take the stage and deliver their dreamy pop live. DEDE was recently included in Deli magazine’s fan-driven poll of top emerging NYC artists.
